This battery operated Model 50 radio was manufactured in 1927. According to Pete Olin, "The AK 50 has several layers of metal covers mainly for extreme shielding. Missing any cover will make the 50 a lousy radio with heterodyning against powerful stations. The circuit is a non-amplified high Q tuned filter on the input, a detector, and a long string of complicated high failure transformers and amplifiers."
